About eighteen months ago, I embarked on a mission to shed light on a pressing issue many face but few openly discuss: burnout. I launched the “Decode Your Burnout” podcast, providing a platform for individuals to share their personal struggles and triumphs over burnout. The stories I’ve gathered are both heart-wrenching and inspiring, offering invaluable insights for those on a similar path. She believed that the constant state of high-stress was normal and necessary for success. This belief prevented her from recognizing the toll it was taking on her physical and mental health.

3. Overnight success is possible. Rebecca mentioned that she witnessed examples of overnight success stories in the business world. This belief fueled her drive and ambition, pushing her to work excessively long hours and sacrifice personal time. However, the reality is that overnight success is rare, and sustainable growth requires a balanced approach.

These very beliefs, the ones that saw her scaling heights and breaking barriers, had a shadow side. They pushed her, yes, but sometimes to the brink. Specifically, these beliefs drove her behaviors.

Here are 3 examples of such BEHAVIORS: 

1. Neglecting self-care. Rebecca acknowledged that she was not prioritizing self-care during her entrepreneurial journey. She did not exercise regularly, ignored her own well-being, and did not take enough time for herself or her family. This behavior led to physical and emotional exhaustion, ultimately contributing to her burnout.

2. Failing to delegate. As the founder of her company, Rebecca took on numerous responsibilities and felt the pressure to do everything herself. She did not delegate tasks or seek support, leading to overwhelming workloads and limited time for other important aspects of her life.

3. Not setting boundaries. As an entrepreneur, she was constantly driven to work hard and push herself, which led to a blurred line between work and personal life. Rebecca mentioned that she would have employees coming to the basement of her home to work, and she would frequently run upstairs to nurse her baby. This lack of clear boundaries between work and personal life contributed to her burnout and prevented her from fully taking care of herself and her family.
